3 Ways to style a Shirt Dress

Transitional weather it is and dressing to this might be the most toughest for many. Why so ? Because one doesn’t know if it is right to step out in a thick winter jacket and later be sweating as the sun might be shining bright or it can be the exact opposite , you step out with the sun shining and realise the thin jacket is not of any use as the chill froze you down ! Hence Smart layering is what I suggest, the key element of wardrobe to play with and experiment during autumn and spring.

Shirt dresses are one of the wardrobe essentials for this weather. They will serve you at multiple occassions – can be your Formal work wear , an easy effortless weekend wear , for a day out with kids or even a Sunday brunch with family. How to style an existing utility piece is what I am gonna help you herewith. If you have one in your wardrobe, go on try these Styling tips or if you are planning to buy one, I shall entice you even more to do so with further read.

3 Ways to Style your Shirt Dress :

As a jacket or layer : The benefit here the shirt dress has is the front buttons they serve. You can hence wear it on your regular denims and top or even on a bodycon dress. If the dress is neutral colour it will serve as beautiful trench too. I used a bright Fuchsia pink top over my fav denims and added this dress on top as a trench. As spring here is the transitional weather I am referring to, I would suggest you to add bright colours like yellows, pinks and greens as your base.

2. Wear as a long top : Here, with my shirt dress I changed the khaki/ cloth belt with my leopard print one ( as its the in thing this season ) and I matched the my shoes with the belt to elevate my look. I wore this dress on jeans for the days which I expected to be warm but ended up being cold ones. You can also play around and try use different belts you already have in your wardrobe to bring more colours to the attire. Simple trick it is, but you feel its a new attire altogether from the one you bought.

3. Wear it Spring Style : So here you wear it as is but with spring style I mean bring colours to it. a contrast colour footwear and a matching bag are the key to bring an oomph to existing attire. So next time you buy a coloured bag try see if you have matching shoes in your closet back home or the vice versa. My zara shirt dress here is a neutral beige so I used vibrant red shoes and a red sling to elevate the look…

So I won your heart over having a Shirt dress serving multiple attires in your transitional weather wardrobe ? Also to add to my styling tips , if the dress is a printed fabric use the inners in block colours and other way round is the dress is a plain fabric like mine you can also play with prints inside. I would not discourage you to not play with prints, you can certainly clash them too but be mindful that they don’t hamper your frame to make to look shorter.

Party Wear Edit – 3 evening outfit looks !

December , a month to shine and sparkle ! From office Christmas parties and with friends, to family gettogethers, its all in a busy month where you need to dress up and be at your best. This season the party trend has gone bold – sequins , glitter, gold and silver rule. When you attend a party you must be confident to dance around like no ones watching ! And a perfect fit attire, with well suited footwear, hint of glam accessories and a dash of confidence is just about right to get the party started.

Sharing here how I styled these three Going Out attires!

1) The Rich Gold – Given me a choice I always tend to pick gold over silver. I paired this dress with gold sandals and to break the gold monochrome I added a colourful sequinned clutch. Personally I am not a huge fan of accessories when the dress is loud enough to speak for itself. However some diamond jewellery with a gold base here would do the trick. The clutch I used here is mine from last year, however I have added a link to similar one. Body shape – Hourglass and slender.

2) The Sequin bling – Its sequins everywhere this season and one must be bold to carry that off in style without looking over the board. For someone like me, picking up sequinned dress was so tough ! As primarily I thought where will I wear it after the party.. I am sure many of you reading this would be on the same boat as me. So well, I thought I shall embrace the trend but not go as bold. I chose gold sequins over a nude base dress to give that bling and yet stay a little subtle. I paired it with rose gold open toed pumps and to tone down a level more I went for a cream gold clutch. I have kept my accessories to minimum with diamond studs in ears and you can wear a bracelet too. You can pair this dress with knee high boots or shiny gladiator sandals as well. Body shape – Hour glass , Slender and soft pear too. (PS – this whole look you can get for £57 only !! )

3) The Evergreen Black – A little black dress is always a party winner and is your wardrobe’s must have ! However I thought bringing in some colours with black would enhance the festive vibe. Here I have styled this bodycon dress with gold pumps and sequinned colourful clutch. A lovely pair of dazzling earrings would enhance the look. Its a classic yet chic evening party wear to have that heads turn around. Body shape – Hourglass and slender, would suit soft strawberry shape too ! Denim Jumpsuit – An Autumn 2018 Must-have !

Denims, I feel , is the perfect fabric for transitional weather. It is chic, casual and can be styled enormous ways. I love incorporating it in my daily wardrobe. You can choose from skirts, jeans, shirts and now, this Autumn 2018, I would highly recommend denim jumpsuits too. Jumpsuit brings that little tweek in your routine attire, helps you stand out and is definitely eye catching.

When it comes to denims I personally always prefer the dark blue ones, but to be fair I am also loving the light blues and carbon ones the market has to offer this Autumn. Look one – I carried off this for an evening dinner. Just the jumpsuit with Gold and Black heels and a stylish bag to elevate the look.
Look two – I added a leather jacket on to it as it was a little windy, but however you can pair it with colourful cardigans or a variety of scarfs could do the trick. This helps break the denim monotony and at the same time brings some vibrancy to the attire.
Look three – I wore it with a jumper on , belt and the autumn boots to create a new look. STYLE TIP – You could also wear it with white sneakers for a perfect day look and a colourful belt to turn that heads around.

You like it or not the Sweater Weather is here ! And the best way to keep warm this Autumn is to wear a jumper yet looking good at it. While the dark mornings, shorter days and cold climes are overwhelming, Knitwear feels like a warm cuppa tea and a hug all in one. Saying that yes I know we all need to wake up , do our jobs , school runs, meetings and chores. It means we cant dress up like being in bed , which ideal often isn’t an option – that’s where Knitwear comes to rescue.

So here I have styled my Chunky jumper , with skinny fit denims. As this evening after the photoshoot I was invited over for dinner at friends , I planned to elevate the look with chic pencil heels and a matching clutch. A jumper , plus jeans and sneakers is a staple “wow” day wear through out the autumns. However accessories are the ones that elevate the attire for the required hour. Here you go the best part of the blog as many say – Style Tips – 1) pear shaped bodies – wear a belt ( not a wide one )over the jumper on the waist over jeans to enhance the look. 2) Strawberry shaped bodies – try pairing your jumpers with pleated skirts or A line skirts and knee length boots. 3) Hour glass or petite shaped bodies – balloon sleeves or frill layered sleeves are your best bet this AW18 Autumn Winters 2018.

Autumn , yes a couple of weeks to settle in , I know, however September marks the sartorial start of the season. Transitional dressing is always a tricky part of the wardrobe as I understand .. especially when you expect a chill in the day and step out with a jumper and it ends up being warmer than you thought. Myself not being a summer person at all, I love this fall season and more so the Autumn Winter colour trends. The variety of options it brings on the table to style is huge. Here, I bring to you the trend I loved most at the outbreak of this Autumn Winter 2018 – Pleated skirt with a jumper. Was it last year and you asked me would you pair this Heena and I would have thought twice. But once I paired this now, it makes me feel so perfect ready for the season. The pleated skirt is always a versatile wardrobe must-have!! You can pair it with various tops as per the hour and occasion. The jumper with it gives a warm glow to beat the oncoming chill.

Style tip – Pear shaped and Apple shaped bodies must wear the skirt a little higher on the waist for a taller look.
